That has resolved my issue (as far as I can see). X can now boot into graphics mode and both monitors will stay alive. However after using xrandr (by disabling the integrated monitor) my Xorg started to hang by an overflow of the event queue (see: https://bugs.freedesktop.org/show_bug.cgi?id=32393) which I would however presume having nothing to do with the kernel.
