After loading the module, the panel just switches off, though the console is still usable. Plugging my DisplayPort screen in also reenables the LVDS panel, although the image is wrapped around by around 100 pixels. (Left part of my prompt is on the right of the screen.) Wraparound might be related to the different resolution for the ext display; the external screen only shows the nonwrapping part of the image (and is therefore missing the first characters of the prompt). Either way that's a separate bug... Apart from the above, I now have working graphics (including 3D) on an UEFI native booted HP EliteBook. I'll clean up my hack VFCT patch and send it to dri-devel.
