Hi developers,

just wanted to describe I experienced with using dri in combination with a mvp3
chipset from via.

The first board I tried out was an ATI Radeon 32MB SDR. As also mentioned on the DRI
website it produced hangups in combination with my chipset. Even Mozilla (so a 2d app
that doesnt run accelerated) locked up after about 30 seconds since i've started
xfree86.

Well then i switched back to my voodoo banshee and everything was okay again (of
course except for the gaming performance) so i bought a Rage 128 pro graphics card
some days ago to test this one. Luckily xfree86 works ok and i havent noticed any
issues with it, except for the DRI. DRI hangs up after just about 3 seconds (even
glxgears hangs up!). I tried a lot of stuff (bios settings, clocking down the RAM,
using newest xfree86 4.2.0 and so on) but unfortunately without a good outcome. I also
tried installing the board under windows which works fine - all accelerated opengl
apps (like quake2/3 or rtcw) work fine there. ATI mentioned on its website conflicts
with the mvp3 chipset and told people to use their newest rage128 pro drivers, so i
think the problem has been resolved there.

Is there someone out there who has an idea how to get xfree86/dri working properly? If
you need any more information (outputs from dmesg, xfree86-logs or whatever) please
tell me so i will post them here.

Thanks in advance

Daniel Kulesz
