We used to do that with some of the XFree86 lists, but there ended
up being a lot of stuff that needed to be processed manually by
the list maintainers and it quickly got out of hand.  We opted for
better spam filtering and removing the subscriber-only restriction.
A small amount of spam gets past the filter, but it's minor compared
with the total volume and the manual intervention required now is
very close to zero.

I expect that there is some filtering already (virus email isn't
getting through for example, and given the amount of that the
XFree86 filter catches each day I'm sure they get directed this
way).
