even on windows, i8x0 performs worse than a voodoo 3 by a LARGE
margin...

The newer chipsets (supported by the i830 driver) are a lot faster than the originals. Additionally, the driver until recently (ie before the last lot of changes done by David Dawes & I) didn't do a good job of setting up tiling, which was vital to decent performance.


I don't have one up & running to give numbers, but they have come along considerably since the i810/i815.
