------- Additional Comments From [EMAIL PROTECTED] 2003-15-08 13:55 -------
Is it possible to get the driver working with kernel 2.5/2.6 ???
I used Hui patch with X 4.3.99.9 and kernel 2.6.0.test3 (drm+agp patched) with
AGP compiled in and radeon as a module.
If I 'modprobe radeon', after 'startx' freezes with blank screen and system is
not responding anyway.
After booting with 'nousb nofirewire acpi=off nomce' the result is same.
Using X 4.3.99.10 (patching went with no problem) - the same result.
If I startx with radeon.ko not loaded, X runs OK, but no DRI and in log is
error as mentioned in comment #84

If I try compile DRM driver in X (4.3.99.10) source, i get error:
make -C /lib/modules/2.6.0-test3/build SUBDIRS=`pwd` DRMSRCDIR=`pwd` modules
make[1]: Entering directory `/usr/src/linux-2.6.0-test3'
make[2]: `arch/i386/kernel/asm-offsets.s' is up to date.

Yes, as was stated, the X source is not kernel 2.6 ready. Is there another way
to build it for 2.6?

Re Michel Dnzer: Yes, you was right, radeon.ko was not loaded. I have right
module-init-tools,
but i have some problems with module autoloading, as I search through linux.kernel
newsgroups, I'm not alone (RedHat9 is somewhat blamed).

BTW: Amilo A laptop really has problems with USB. RH9 was not even possible to
install without 'nousb'. I encounter problems with both 2.4 and 2.6 kernels. It
also cause mouse or keyboard freezing after startup or hanging just before
power-off. With 2.6 it is MUCH better, it cause only PS mouse freezing, until I
manually load module 'ohci_hcd' (= ohci_usb in 2.4) then prints message:
"ACPI: No IRQ known for interrupt pin A of device 0000:00:02.0" and PS
mouse/touchpad is accesible after reloading module 'psmouse'. If I boot with
'nousb', there are no problems with it.
