Hi all,

I've already reported this in bugzilla (bug# 3386). If I should have reported this problem in this forum first, I apologise. I am happy to debug this myself, if someone could please give me some pointers on how to debug an active kernel module, and what I should look for first.

I am an experienced (though a little rusty) C/C++ developer, and have installed all the development tools and debuggers I could find on the distro.

The problem in summary: I have some java programs that use JOGL to drive OpenGL but which cause a SIGSEGV in the r200 radeon driver. It is not at all clear to me whether the problem is in the original java code, the JOGL library, mesa, or the r200 driver. I have reported this to the JOGL folk, and they have responded that I should report this to the DRI forums. The problem currently makes ArtOfIllusion unusable for me with OpenGL acceleration.

My software:
updated (with YUM) Fedora Core 3 (kernel 2.6.11-1.14_FC3)
Xorg 6.8.2 (release date 9 February 2005)
radeon 4.0.1, ati 6.5.6,
drm 1.0.0 20040925.
Java: build 1.5.0_01-b08 (www.java.sun.com)
JOGL: binary build, 1.1b11 (May 11, 2005)

My hardware:
DELL latitude D600 notebook with an ATI Mobility 9000 (M9) graphics card

I can reliably reproduce the crash by running the TestContextDestruction demo from the JOGL website. (I can also produce a similar SIGSEGV with the open source 3D modelling app "ArtOfIllusion" v2.1).

I have provided details on reproducing the JOGL demo error in bug report #3386).

If someone could provide me with a few pointers on how to proceed, I am happy to debug this further, and hopefully at least isolate the actual problem location, even if I may not have the skills or knowledge to fix that problem.

Cheers!
Nik.
