There are no technical problems with doing any of this, it is just
that nobody wants to do the work.

We shouldn't change the fbdev architecture without at least having
someone on the hook for changing all of the drivers. You don't want to
convert ten and not the others, then we effectively have two fbdev
systems to maintain.

My opinion is to just leave fbdev alone and tap into the existing
drivers. Splitting all those drivers on all those platforms just isn't
going to happen.
