One might argue that you've already got the source then ;-)

I guess I'll tailor my email to the DE to talk about any
necessary patches instead.

It sure would be nice if you could provide details on
which systems you've found this problem on, and precisely
what you were trying to do when reading the config space.
Then we'd have some chance of figuring out what the best
course of action is.
