Alan -
#0) while it was clear to me, what the ati/radeon/theatre_detect
submodule is and what it would normally be intended for ("normal" :=
under generic Xorg with generic ati/radeon ddx), I still fail to
understand, which kind of problems the OP has on his box. Is Xorg not
properly switching into graphic mode with root window and the usual
X11 pattern? What? I dont understand it, because he did not tell.
#1) As I stated before, I use my own flavour of Xorg plus my private
variant of ati/radeon, rather than Sun´s version of Xorg with Sun´s
private derivate of ati/radeon (aka "efb"). Hence I simply lack the
try&run at hands experience with efb. And all I had was OP´s
Xorg.0.log, which appears to look pretty good! The only ddx related
(normally harmless) warning I could find, was the

As I said, this one is normally non-fatal, but I need more information
and a more detailed description of what actually happens on Phillipe´s
SB1500 Red / XVR-100.
#x) On a side note: If Sun´s SPARC-gfx group delivered the efb ddx in
such a way, that they decided not to ship one or more submodules (how
many they actually do or do not ship - I need to install, look and try
out before I can make further statements), then it would have been
good engineering practice, to not only strip off the unneeded
submodule(s), but also together with them all references to them. It
is certainly not ideal, to keep ati/radeon errm "efb" trying to open
"theatre_detect", if it is indeed true, that it is not being shipped.
But again, I use private variants and first need to get used to Sun´s
so called "efb" ddx.
Before I have time for these experiments I simply wanted to help
Phillipe. Especially to figure out, what the actual problem is.
Because judging from his Xorg.0.log alone, he should already have a
running X server.
