Lucid (10.04) still uses gcc 4.4.3, so 10.10 doesn't rid you of any older
versions there. 10.04 will be supported by Ubuntu for another three years.

I see on the jenkins instance that CentOS 5.6 is there. If its using
the latest gcc44 from CentOS 5.8, I believe that is 4.4.6.
