Claudia Jürgen commented on DS-362:
-----------------------------------

Hi all,

this is no direct DSpace issue, but depends on the db and the locale setting
used during initdb.

Here is an example

these are the entries to be sorted
Anton, G.
Anton, L.
Antoni, G.
Antona, A.

LANG set to en_US result in this sort:
Anton, G.
Anton, L.
Antona, A.
Antoni, G.

LANG set to DE_DE.UTF-8 results in this sort (spaces etc are neglected)
Antona, A.
Anton, G.
Antoni, G.
Anton, L.

Hope that helps

Claudia

> Alphabetization broken in author browse; disregards spaces?

> Browsing by author in XMLUI yields strange alphabetization. E.g. from
> mi...@uw (screenshot attached):
> Choudhury, Anindo
> Choudoir, Christopher
> Chounard, Edward
> Chou, Richard M.
> Chousal, L.
> Chow, D.
> Chowdhury, Mashrur
> Cho, Yoonyoung
> Choy, Young Bin
> What seems to be happening is that the indexer is running words together
> (ignoring spaces) and then alphabetizing. Correct behavior (at least in
> English) would be putting word-boundary before "a".
