My tuppence worth :-
If possible I would like us to avoid adding anything to the config file to
solve this issue. It is already so complicated that I am sure most people dont
know half of what is in there. If the field were presented to me read-only it
would not occur to me to look in the config file to see if there was a way to
make it editable, I would already have gone to the database and edited it
directly. My preference is to give resonsibilty to the administrator whereever
possible.
