Well, I would suggest that it would be reasonable to turn it on by default, but
I wrote it, so my +1 should be considered biased. Considering there is an
on/off switch in dspace.cfg though, it wouldn't be hard for someone to shut it
off if they chose to.

Basically, this seems like a feature that would benefit all sites to
have enabled. I realize that in the past, DSpace has often first
released new features as "disabled" by default. But, this seems like a
small enough feature that can provide a large benefit to all existing
sites, so I'd personally like to see it enabled by default.
