I'd like to add that during the latest release cycle we had a great experience cooperating with a new contributor - EKT (a Greek institution) which resulted in several new features accepted to DSpace 3.0. I'm sure if you contact them (e.g. Kostas Stamatis, email in CC), they'll be glad to give you guidance on contributing to DSpace. I just thought it might be easier for your teams to exchange experiences in your native language.
