What we *really* ought to do with bindings is to leave the backend out of the 
build altogether and let it be supplied at install time, user's choice, for all 
DSpace artifacts.  That's what slf4j is *for*.  But that's another project, and 
probably requires passing through the whole codebase with fire and sword to 
replace all direct dependencies on log4j.  I don't propose to do that here.
