I am just interested in how other institutions using DSpace deal with circa
dates. For our repository it was decided early that dates would be formatted
similiar to the AACR2 standard, but without using square brackets and using
question marks instead of hypens, even though I realised that this would mean
that dates wouldn't be in the correct ISO standard, but the cataloguers chipped
away at my resistance.
So, for our dates we use formats like 1974?, or 194?, and for dates ranges
(1964 - 1967), we don't have anything in the date field, and just make sure it
is in the description.
I would be glad to hear back about how other institutions deal with these sort
of dates. I realise that it is possible that the majority of institutions that
use DSpace are universities, so these sorts of dates may not apply.
Thanks
Jennifer
