Hi Brent,

Jonathan Markow already provided a nice overview of why DuraSpace is
interested in helping steward the VIVO project.

One other thing to note. In your question, you seem to be implying that
"DuraSpace" is a piece of software. DuraSpace is not a software product
and it never will be.

To clarify, DuraSpace is a non-profit organization that helps support
several open source software projects (and a few hosted services as
well). Presently, the DuraSpace organization acts as the stewards of
DSpace software and Fedora software products. As Jonathan mentioned,
we've just recently begun "incubation" of VIVO software. Incubation
means that we are working with the VIVO developers to help transition
their software development processes from grant funded to community
supported in the hopes of improving long term sustainability of the
project. This is very similar to the Apache Foundation's
(http://www.apache.org/) "incubation" processes, if you are familiar
with those.

DuraSpace becoming stewards of VIVO software does NOT mean that DSpace
software or Fedora software will include VIVO out-of-the-box. However,
obviously we'd like to encourage all of these software products to
integrate with one another (though the various user communities will
decide the extent of integration between these software products).

Let us know if this is still unclear. We'd be glad to clarify as needed.

- Tim
