We unfortunately don't have an exact release date yet. We're working
very hard to get the release out as soon as possible. I'm hoping it's
only a few weeks away, but it depends entirely on how much support /
help we receive from volunteers.
The most recent delays have resulted because many of our usual volunteer
developers have been taking (well deserved) vacation during the past
month. We were hoping to release 6.0 in July, but we aren't quite there yet.
However, you can follow along with the 6.0 release by either following
our weekly Developer Meeting notes/agendas [1] or by checking the DSpace
6.0 Status page. On the 6.0 Status page, we have a section of "Tickets
to Resolve":

This tickets are the ones that remain prior to the 6.0 release. Some
only need retesting, some need documentation, and there are some that
still need to be fixed (or their proposed fixes need testing).
So, the simple answer here is that we are working hard to get 6.0
released as soon as possible. However, the more help we get, the quicker
the release will occur. DSpace is entirely built, supported and
released by volunteers (and we welcome new volunteers to get involved
and help out!). Anyone can volunteer to help test / verify / document
one of the remaining tickets above (just add your feedback to the ticket
via a comment).
