The DSpace API has some good functions for collection deletion also. It is quite straightforward to use. We use it for “on-the-fly” collection creation and deletion. It’s handy for bulk uploading and testing.

At the moment, my collections are spread out over multiple communities, but I could move them to a dummy community and delete them all there. I have moved collections through the database before.
