Yes, this is because the instructions for upgrading have you leave your data "in place" as configured in your [dspace]/config/ dspace.cfg and run the installation on top of it. Its assumed they are in

[dspace]/assetstore
[dspace]/bin
[dspace]/config
[dspace]/logs
[dspace]/lib
[dspace]/search

where [dspace] is the location of your running installation of dspace (by default usually /dspace or C:\dspace)

But, what if i removed each and everything of my previous dspace? As i did! For some reason, i had to remove my debian system & also had to install the new debian system. But, before that, i took some files as .tar.gz. What`s now?

I have installed Dspace 1.5.1 in Debian 4.0. I have the copy of backup files. Now, how can i activate my previous datas in new debian + dspace 1.5.1 system?

What was the version of your previous dspace again, was it originally 1.5.1 as well? I'm also not seeing reference to a backing up a postgres database in your last emails, did you do a postgres database backup as well? If you have not, this will be the difficult hurdle to get over.

Cheers,
Mark
