Hi Platt, Without rewriting the dspace source, there is a way to make any field you like become searchable. The solution is to add the information into a metadata value.
In the IR I am managing I created a metadata tag to describe the item type, so that we could filter out thesis having full -text or abstract-only or TOC-only. A little changes to the config file is needed if you wish your advanced search options to include your custom metadata tags. Allen Lam.
