Andrea: Thank you. I am using http://localhost/solr/statistics/ I can't seem to connect using either 8080 or not and using 127.0.0.1 or not from my server. I will have to dig deeper. I may have some other problem.

What happens if you try to access http://127.0.0.1:8080/solr/statistics/admin/ via the command line on the dspace server? Depending on your setup, you should leave out the port number.
