Hello lifeh2o,The upgrade to 3.x should be painless (e.g. DSpace-CRIS use already discovery module as is in DSpace 3.0). We plan to release an early preview of DSpace-CRIS on DSpace 3.x before the end of July. This early release will include bugs fix for the 1.8.2.0-beta and the ability to define new object types via UI to manage 2nd level CRIS entities (e.g. prize, equipment, laboratory shared and linked to one or more 1st or 2nd level CRIS entities - People, Project, OrgUnit). If you start to make experiments with DSpace-CRIS let me know, I will try to help you as much as possible.
