James,

Many of the folks in my area are using the ICOM IC-2820. ICOM is the only
brand available. Because it is a dual-band radio you will need a dual-band
antenna. The DSTAR system is capable of having DPRS (similar to APRS) info
put out to the APRS network for those radios sending their coordinates. In
order to do that the radio needs to be running the GPS setup which I believe
is a available on all the ICOM models.

Subject: [dstar_digital] Newbie Question

Well it looks like I am the newbie this time. So I will ask the dreaded
questions and see what the majority offers.

What is the best radio?
What is the most popular band?
Mono Band, Dual Band, Tri Band?
Power output needs.
Is there a Google map or a Google Earth overlay for nodes?
