You might also try putting the radio in a sealed bag of rice for 3 or 4 days. The rice will absorb any residual moisture in the radio.
This has worked for people who have dunked their cell phones. If DC power was present even though the radio was powered down it is very likely that electrolysis may have corroded a trace of print. That would be the best possible outcome. Look for white or green power and crystals (or where they were before cleaning) If you have a neighbor with the same model you could mix and match control and radio and see of the problem is isolated.
