I wouldn't set entirely on certifications. Find yourself an exciting
area, then an exciting project in it and participate. Work with people
you don't know personally on something. Improve it, fix it, help out.
That will you teach much more than any certification program can.

Having said that, I believe in the Middle East you still need some
certification. ;) I'll leave that part of the answer to the others.
