Use Skype again:

1) Get tor. This is the tricky part because Etisalat blocks the site.
So you'll have to do it in a Freezone or through a proxy.
The tor windows Vidalia package has everything you need:
http://tor.eff.org/dist/vidalia-bundles/vidalia-bundle-0.1.1.23-0.0.7.exe
More info on http://tor.eff.org

2) When installing tor make sure it activates a SOCKS proxy on
localhost port 9050

3) fire up skype, go to tools -> options -> connection
Set skype to use a SOCKS proxy server on host localhost, port 9050

4) restart skype and enjoy!

This way Skype will log in to skype through the tor network, bypassing
etisalat's blockade. Your communications however, will still be
"lightning" fast peer to peer.

I think this differs from OpenVPN with the redirect-gateway directive
because with that the 'peer to peer' connections are still tunneled
through the vpn and the gateway on the other end so this might cause
some more lag. Well, that's how it goes on Windows AFAIK. With the
redirect-gateway option really everything gets tunneled. On Linux you
can probably do some funky magic with iptables to have the login
tunnel over vpn but all the other stuff not.
But as I said, this is just a quick fix.

Regards!

Michael
