Hi Steve, the adapter did NOT have a switch or pin 30.....I don't know about
the cable I'm getting. I checked the PB control panel as well. It sounds
like I need the 30 pin connector for "SCSI Mode"...will the 29 pin connector
work to run the external CD Rom drive ? Thanks......JWS.

If this is a adapter as apposed to just a cable, there should be a little
switch
to activate the 30th pin to load SCSI mode into memory when powering-up the
Duo.
Otherwise, the powerbook will start as normal, using the SCSI port for
devices.
Also, check the Powerbook control panel for which SCSI address your set to
when
SCSI mode is selected. It could be the PB is set at 0, which would conflict
with your other Macs.

Subject: [Duo2400] ...."SCSI Mode"....

Hi All, I am having trouble understanding and setting up "SCSI Mode" between
my Duo Docked 280c and my Mac PPC 6166. I bought an adapter for the square
SCSI connecter in the Dock....first I tried to connect to a SCSI CD Rom
drive, I used a known good cable, I tried three.....with and without
terminator, and several SCSI ID numbers......nothing. Then I tried to
connect to the desktop Mac.....still nothing. Then I did some more reading
and research and learned about 29 and 30 pin cables and/ or an adapter with
a switch to go from 29 to 30, etc. My question is, what is the correct
configuration to make this work ? I have just ordered a Belkin cable with
the "square" connecton, I don't know the pin count, will this work for the
