Interesting--I always leave my PowerBook 2400 in sleep mode (it is never
shut down) and it is hooked up to the a/c adapter about 80% of the time
(unless I am actually mobile, and then I drain the battery and plug it
in). I know that will save my PRAM battery, but I've never heard of a
rechargeable PRAM battery. I know it can be drained.

My Apple IIGS ROM 1 was unplugged for over a year; when I recently
plugged it back in it gave me the correct time and date. This contrasts
with the report of an iMAc user who stated that after 6 months of
unplugging their iMac that their PRAM battery was dead.

I guess one would call that "planned obsolescence."
