Hello. I tried to pull up the list archive on the site to see if this topic had been covered, but for some reason the page wouldn't load, so please forgive me if this problem already has been covered on this list. I was trying to upgrade my Duo 230, which for some reason had quit running off the battery, to a 2300 motherboard, figuring that that would fix the problem and give me a faster computer. I also got a replacement internal battery. I've added hard drives, RAM, PCI cards and new procesors to desktop Macs without incident, so I figured I could handle this. In addition, I'd got a 1/2-gig IDE drive to replace the 80MB SCSI. Since I don't have an external floppy to use to reformat the IDE, I left both drives connected, figuring I could boot up from the SCSI, then format and copy all my system software to the IDE. According to the stuff I'd read, this should be possible (in theory) using a 2300 motherboard. When I plugged it in, the IDE drive immediately got red-hot, so I immediately unplugged and disconnected it. I put the computer back together again. However now, with the new motherboard in, the hard drive powers up when it's plugged in but nothing else happens. And now, when I put it back together the old way (with the 230 board), nothing happens at all. Is there something I missed when I was putting it back together? Have I permanently fried this thing, or is it easily fixed? Any and all help would be appreciated. Thanks. ---------- Duo/2400 List, The friendliest place on the Net!
