It's always worth keeping in mind the difference between what the company will
support and what's technically the case. The digital camera standard for flash
storage is simply an MS-DOS FAT-16 filesystem (more's the pity - no filetypes,
icons or thumbnail resources for you!). The data contents of a storage device
can always be overwritten, ergo the card can always be restored to its camera
purpose. Whether it's possible to provide simple instructions for 99.9% of
flash card users is another matter entirely, but you will be able to
reinitialise the drive with a FAT filesystem even if it just requires a little
persistence. I did this with a 16MB card as an exercise a while back - for
certainty I chose to first reformat it in the Finder, then again in the
camera, but cameras are actually pretty flexible since they're generally
intended to be able to read back each other's images.

I've never bothered checking whether the filesystem is in a standard fdisk
partition on the device (even more's the pity), but I would assume it is.
This is dealt with by the File Exchange software on the Mac.
