Basically, some prefer the older OS versions, and some prefer 8.1. Either way you look at it, though, there are only three OS versions that you should consider, IMHO. They are: 1.) MacOS 8.1 2.) MacOS 7.6.1 (Be certain to update various bits and pieces, and possibly add the appearance manager. Check versiontracker for a "System upgrades" page.) 3.) System 7.1 (I believe that this is the original system that shipped with the Duo 280 and 280c.) Small and quick. I personally think that system 7.5 leaves a lot to be desired. Not as stable and refined as 7.6.1, and not as small and quick as 7.1. Of course, they are free, but 7.6 can be had for a reasonable price, and the update to 7.6.1 is free.
