The E-Machines Etherdock has an elusive revision 'C' or something model that is reputedly compatible with the Duo 280 and 2300. I for one have only had the experience of a 2300 crashing with my Etherdock. (Actually, it worked for TCP/IP based browsing and e-mail, but crashed on any large, upstream transfer over Ethernet.) For 280/280c and 2300c Duos, here are the best options for Ethernet: 1.) Full Sized Duo Dock with Ethernet. The Duo Dock II and Plus have built-in Ethernet, while the Duo Dock I can easily be outfitted with a NuBUS card. 2.) Newer Technologies UltraDock 16sce (NOTE THE 'e', the 16sc does not have ethernet). This works flawlessly with the 280 and 2300, once you install the NewerTech drivers. It also provides all of the ports provided by the Apple Minidock. 3.) Newer Technologies Ethernet Microdock. Same as above, but doesn't provide all of the other ports that the 16sce does. (It only has an ADB port and an RJ-45 port. 4.) Asante NetDock. This is an elusive Ethernet microdock. They occasionally pop up on eBay, but I can't say if they are compatible with all Duos, or if it needs special drivers. Maybe someone can chime in. Of special import is whether and drivers are OS 8.x compatible) 5.) Apple minidock (or any other dock with a SCSI port, for that matter) combined with a SCSI-Ethernet adapter. (Like the EN/SC series, etc.) This is probably the least expensive option, especially if you already have a dock with a SCSI port.
