This is a problem for anyone with a slowish Mac. I would suggest the
following (I haven't tried it yet, but it should work):

1. Change Sherlock II's file type (using a utility like FileTyper) to
something like '????'.

2. If you want a nice icon (instead of the generic one), copy the Sherlock
II icon before changing the file type and paste it on after the change.

3. Put Sherlock I or the old Find File (from pre-8.5) on your harddrive (in
the Apple menu if you want). Now, whenever you hit command-F in the finder,
the old find file loads, and it's really fast. If you need to use Sherlock
features (web searching, find by content), just select it from the Apple
menu (if you left it there).

This way you get to use the advantages of Sherlock II when you need them,
but when quickly searching for a file, you don't have to wait around. Just
an idea. This is what I'm planning on doing when I finally install Mac OS 9
on my 2300c.

Cheers,
Jolin
