Because these machines are portable, they are placed in more peril. I
must say that I am already worried about the viability of the 2400. I
just bought one on ebay to supplant my Powerbook 190 which I bought for
$900 new. I bought the 2400 because it is clear that Apple has lost touch
with small, albeit enthusiastic, market which 2400 and Duo owners
represent. The footprint of Apple's laptops continues to increase as the
number of ports on the back decrease. (Right now you Duo owners are
asking, "what's the matter with that?")

I need the SCSI and I need the Localtalk! I don't want a giant footprint
because I often fly and I am always in the cheap seats. The 2400 seemed
like the perfect solution.

But now I am wondering. My 190 has travelled with me to five foreign
countries, been on lots of domestic flights and it only complained once
when somebody crammed it into a car trunk and then repeatedly slammed the
trunk trying to compress the luggage inside. Ouch!

The PB 190 gave me an honest 3 hours on the battery and I just bought an
additional battery for only $30. Now my PB 2400 won't charge or run from
batteries, so it back to Apple for service. And back to the 190 for day
today use.

The 2400 is better in almost every measure against the 190 but it comes
up short on the two most important features needed by travellers: battery
life and reliability.
