there has been some chat in the past about loose screws floating about in 
2400 and 5300 laptops.  So it would not be a bad idea to open it up, but 
PLEASE be sure to consult with HOW to go about opening and keeping track of 
what you do when searching for the memory chip.  It's NOT the easiest unit to 
deal with but it's possible to do the work yourself.
I did have a G3 chip put in my 2400 and it did the same thing, the sleep 
light stayed on and I didn't have a battery at the time (have since got one 
on ebay, thank you for whoever posted that listing here) and had to send it 
back, it would not wake up from sleep.
