There has been a lot of talk about 2400s dying off recently, but I don't
think that this is indicative of some fault in its design. When ANY
mass-produced consumer product reaches a certain age, it has a much greater
chance of encountering trouble from the small flaws that(over time) have
become large. The loose screw/daughtercard is one example.

Now is the BEST time, as well as the FINAL time, to buy a G3 card for your
2400. They will be completely gone very quickly. The new PowerBooks coming
in Jan will be close enough to an ideal power/size form factor that many of
us may convert.... I, for one, am getting a G3 card from MCE now, and
buying a desktop just before I graduate from college(so I can take
advantage of that educational discount ;-).

As far as the OS, I have used 8, 8.1, 8.5, 8.5.1 and 8.6. In my experience,
8 was good but had some problems. 8.1 is what I am using now, because it's
light on RAM, fast and response. 8.5 and so on, although fun to use, felt
sluggish on my 2400c- I am hoping OS9 remedied that!
