Don't you mean 2 Mb/s for the GeoPort? 2MB/s is 16Mb/s -- significantly
faster than USB's 12Mb/s.

But they have USB to SCSI converters -- it allows you to plug a SCSI device
into a USB port. So there must be some way of doing it (although I agree
that it's probably not practical for serial to USB).
