Hello, DuoList!

I am writing for the first time to this list with a question
about a peculiar circumstance of popping new Global Village 19.2
duo modem into a 2300-upgraded 280c. The 'book had no modem when
I got it, so I ordered the above-metioned modem and
(harrowingly) opened the Duo up and put it in place. After
running the most recent software installer, and getting it
recognized by the Mac, it works, much to my relief...BUT there
is one really weird (and annoying!) thing going on now. The
modem keeps sending a charge to the speaker of the Duo every
time it powers on or off.. it makes a short, fairly loud
'burping' noise. No apparent damage to the speaker, or the
modem, but hearing this everytime I startup (right at the
chime), twice again when the Extensions load, and again when
shutting down the computer is getting a little old! I am also
concerned that it may be something that will cause damage at
some point... Anyone have any idea what's going on? Should I be
worried? Or should I just feed my Duo fewer beans?...just
kidding. Thanks in advance for any help.
