There are different levels of security, with some, like 'After Dark' I
think, where restarting with extensions off deactivates it (it's really
only a screensaver, after all). Norton Disklock is trickier but I was able
to reformat a drive (I bought it from a company who got it from a client:
apparently the disklock got corrupted somehow and even the real password
wouldn't work!) by hooking it up to an external SCSI drive (I think it was
a Zip) and holding down 'cmd-opt-shift-#' (where # is the SCSI id of the
zip). This bypasses the internal drive and then Drive Setup could see the
drive and initialize it (the data on the drive was not accessible). A
floppy start up didn't work.

I've heard that the Apple Security software (which I know nothing about)
pretty much makes the drive impossible to get into. But if you can prove
you legitimately own the machine an Apple dealer can bypass it for you.

good luck!
