I have the @home service on cable and I love it. Maybe I shouldn't say
that, as I understand bandwidth decreases the more subscribers you have
in your area, so we cable modem users should keep quiet :) It is very
fast for downloads especially. I also like not having to dial in and
having _almost_ no connection and dropout problems.

Of course, if you log on to a site that is very congested, your cable
modem will not speed things up very much, if at all. You will always be
restricted to the speed of the slowest part of the chain. $45-$50 sounds
a bit steep to me, though, but I'm not familiar with US prices. Here in
Canada I am paying $40 CDN per month (on top of my regular TV cable
bill), which is about $27 US. At the moment this includes free cable
modem rental, but that will change as the modems become more available.
Does the $45-$50 include cable TV as well - in which case it is around
what I pay for the total package.
