Looking for some guidance from the MIDI folk on the list...

I have been thinking for a while that it would be cool to set up my 280
as a lean and clean MIDI machine. Thus far I have had little luck getting
a MIDI file player to work without freezing after a few minutes. The 280
is set up as follows:

12 MB RAM (Ram Doubler installed; set to 24 MB total); OS 7.6.1

I have tried ClubMID, MIDIJukebox, MIDPlay (all shareware). I have used
OMS and MIDIManager with each, with the best results coming with ClubMID
& OMS; also have used QuickTime as synth as well as a Kawai K4. I'll set
it up, start it playing a file, and after a few minutes or so, the
machine has frozen up.

I have set up extensions to a minimum (no fax software, no Express Modem,
no OpenTransport, no FreePPP) although I *do* use SmartScroll and Ram
Doubler, as mentioned before. Have tried with AppleTalk off and on as
well.

Don't know if I have left out any vital details here or not, but any
insight/suggestions from other musicians and MIDIphiles on the list would
be appreciated.

Much obliged,

Bruce
