I pride myself on knowing quite a bit about duos since I own several and buy,
repair, and sell them...I can tell you that the EASIEST way to tell if you
have an apple fax/modem built in, is to look at the telephone outlet on the
back on the powerbook....if it's light grey in color, it's an apple, and
therefore you should be using apple telecom software which you can get online
free at apple.com
otherwise, if by some rare occurance it is DARK in color, almost black, you
have instead a global village 19.9 built in. My feeling from what feedback
you are getting from the software is that you have an apple since the
fax/modem does not work with global village software.
once you have the right software, it works like a charm....you will have to
go into the modem control panel to actually turn on the modem...then restart
the computer.
if you are using an EXTERNAL modem, then you will have to disable the
internal and use the proper drivers for whatever ex. modem you choose.
good luck
Alan
PS....the small line at the bottom of the screen is probably a small defect
in the ribbon cable that connects to your flat screen monitor. if you press
the lower panel a bit at various places, that line may disappear, and that
might tell you that it is the ribbon cable, otherwise, as long as it doesn't
bother you, it may not be a serious problem.
