First off, hello to everyone on this list.
I've just got hold of a Duo 230 from a friend who bought a few at auction...
he sold me one for only 25UKP - approx 35USD - and kindly threw in another
for spares... not bad I think.
18MB RAM
100MB Disk
7.5.xx OS
AC Adapter
Built in modem (international 8 pin din type)
But no battery (!)
I've managed to source a MiniDock + floppy (64UKP - approx 80USD), which
I've yet to receive or test, but fingers crossed.
I'm going to get it all together and give it to my partner as a gift - she's
a writer and this will allow her to write when away (visiting family,
holidays, that sort of thing).
Anyway, I have a few questions :
How easy is it to swap files (say ascii text) between Duo and PC?
- I see the PC Exchange software - is this sufficient?
- Does it retain the DOS format when writing back? - I guess it
must.
What is the pin out for the international 8 pin din modem? - is there a
wiring diagram or source for convertors?
Where can I get modem software for this?
How do I configure it for dialup PPP - there must be a FAQ for this! ?
Where can I get a good battery (UK preferably)?
Whats the max life length of a fully charged battery
- I've see 2-4hours - but this seems short.
- Are newer technology batteries better?
Is there a version of WORD that will run at an okay speed and that will
accept word DOCS from a new PC version of Windows?
- I guess the docs would need to be saved out from the PC as an old
format.
- If so, where can I get a copy?
Wow, lots of stuff for people to get their teeth into - or put me down for
asking simple questions - the choice is yours.
Regards,
Jason.
