The adhesive is an important part of the heat transfer process, as Brandy mentioned earlier. There are special adhesives available at better electronics stores for this (so you probably won't find it at Radio Shack). Do not use home adhesives, epoxies, or wax (which acts as a thermal insulator). Your CPU chip relies upon this cooling, and failure to reattach the elastomer heat sink properly will likely shorten the life of that chip. And aluminum foil in a laptop? When (not if) those flakes of foil migrate around, they'll short out some component -- and that'll be all she wrote for your baby. Why not ship it off to a competent technician for proper restoration?
