Hi Corina,

I made that decision last month. While I prefer SCSI for speed I recognized
that I would probably be using the scanner with my next Mac, which meant USB.
So I used it as an excuse to get a USB PC card for my PB 2400. This only works
if your PB 2400 has had CardBus enabled by MCE or works already(unlikely, but
possible). You can probably get your PB 2400 Cardbus enabled and buy a MacAlly
USB card for around $200 total, plus $150 for a scanner = $350. Now just price
the SCSI scanners and see if it makes more sense to put the dollar difference
between SCSI and USB scanners towards expanding your PB 2400s functionality in
lieu of buying a SCSI-based scanner.

Things are getting so inexpensive that unless you have specific quality
requirements most of the low-end machines will meet your needs and be replaced
on the market by cheaper, better products next year anyway. ;-)

FWIW, I ended up getting the Epson 610 primarily due to a few good reviews and
low price, around $125-150. For a scanner reviews see: www.cnet.com and
MacWorld(though dated). Given the low prices, I'd strongly suggest a new
machine.
