Hello: I was passing my local Mac store the other day and I dropped in to have a look at the new portable. I was disappointed. The colour is more reasonable but the shape is just as silly. Each visit reinforces my determination not to give up my 2400c, my sixth and by far my most useful Mac. And I must say what I've seen of the new GUI leaves me wondering if I really want OSX when it arrives. So I was greatly encouraged to come across the Gnome-Eazel project. http://www.eazel.com/clippings.html If Eazel delivers what it promises, we may be able to move gracefully from our present pretty but buggy MacOS to an equally pretty but solid Gnome on Linux. And we will be able to run our legacy Mac software using Mac-on-Linux. I expect Linux will not demand anywhere near the RAM or CPU muscle I understand OSX requires so Linux should effectively recover the 2400c from obsolescence. Sound like a good deal to me. (And like BeOS 5, it's free). I think Apple may have missed the boat for the last time. Douglas Wagner PS: True to form, the MacOS crashed as I was mailing this. So don't be surprised if two copies turn up on the list. Pray thee, take care, that tak'st my book in hand, To read it well: that is, to understand.
