I realize this seems crazy again, but a few days ago I asked if anyone was
putting digital audio into a PB2400. No one replied, and I have not been
able to find such a device either. There are PCI "sound cards" that have a
digital audio input, but they
So I was wondering, since PCI cards have the similar functional interface to
PCMCIA cards, has anyone ever seen a PCMCIA card which gives you a PCI slot
on an external "dock" of some kind? So you could use a PCI card on a
Powerbook?
Huh?

I don't know of that particular device, but I recall you wanted an
optical digital connection for audio. If you can somehow get past the optical
connection, there is a REALLY nice digital audio PCMCIA card by Digigram (a
French company) called the VX Pocket, that works just fine with my
Cardbus-enabled 2400c.... It has analog and digital ins and outs, though NOT
optical.
This card actually has MORE functionality than my digidesign Audiomedia
III PCI card (in my old PowerTowerPro/G3), because it also has (selectable)
high-quality microphone pre-amps built-in. You can buy it with Peak editing
software. It costs a LOT of money, though, around $700.
However, with a pair of good mics, you've got a top-flight roving remote
recording outfit right in your Mac!
