Alex,

Thanks for the tip! Bias has bought Macromedia's "Deck" (virtual digital
audio tape deck), added some of their own software, and packaged it with
the VXPocket PCMCIA audio card. Packages are $800-$1000. The VXPocket
card is manufactured by Digigram (www.digigram.com). It has both analog
and digital I/O and is available separately at Guitar Center stores for
$600.

The cool thing is that all of these products advertise compatibility with
Powerbook 2400! Made me feel good since I've read alot of "Windows 95/98
BLAH BLAH BLAH" System Requirements in shopping for sound cards the last
few days.

It looks like I'll also need a $79 model CO2 converter from
www.midiman.com to convert my MiniDisc optical output to the coax used by
the VXPocket.

It's a little more capability than I had in mind, but if I can squeeze
this into our toys budget somehow....

If I had USB, I could buy a DATPort from www.opcode.com; this should be
much cheaper since it is a digital interface only, no analog. Opcode
says it is designed for Windows but will work on a Mac if you have OS 9!
(Maybe this starts to explain why OS 9 chews up 40 MB of RAM!)

Jerry
